WORLD OCEAN DAY 2022
Department of Zoology observed World Ocean Day on 8th JUNE 2022.Students actively participated in the World Ocean Day 2022. Students created awareness by making poster and spoke about the importance of oceans, how are we polluting the water bodies by dumping plastic and industrial wastes and how it is effecting the life of fishes and aquatic plants. They emphasized the theme “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean”. This Day is celebrated to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean and to develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the oceans.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE-2022
International
Day of Women and Girls in Science was observed on 11th February 2022. Awareness programme was conducted and
students participated in role play. Students of final CBZ represented Jane Goodall, Madam Marie Curie, Kalpana Chawla, B.Vijayalakshmi, Tessy Thomas and Anandi Gopal Joshi and spoke about their contribution
to science and mankind.
AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON MARINE FISH AND FISHERIES IN COLLABORATION WITH FISHERY SURVEY OF INDIA,VISAKHAPATNAM ON 9-2-22
As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations the Visakhapatnam, Fishery Survey of India ,Govt of India and Department of Zoology St. Joseph’s College for Women(A) has conducted an Awareness Programme on “ Marine fish and Fisheries in India” on 9-2-22.The inaugural session was followed by Technical session and Marine Exhibition in the zoology lab. The session elaborated on the marine biodiversity and eco friendly fishing methods. The faculty of the department _Dr.P.Aruna Devi -Director P.G. Studies, Dr .Nalini Dutta, Dr. E. Harini-HOD of the Department of Zoology, Dr.P.Rosina George, Dr.A.Sneha, Miss.Indrani pariticipated along with the officers of FSI Dr. Bhami Reddy(HOO),DR.A.B. Kar(Scientist),Dr. Silambarasan(Scientist).
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE
International Day of Zero tolerance-FEMALE
GENITAL MUTILATION DAY was observed in the department of Zoology on 7th February. Students
created awareness by speaking about the heinous crime against women . Female
genital mutilation is a violation of girls’ rights and can lead to serious
health complications and even death. Girls subjected to female genital
mutilation are at increased risk of child marriage and dropping out of school,
threatening their ability to build a better future for themselves, their
families and their communities.
NATIONAL BIRDS DAY -NOVEMBER 2021
National birds Day 2021 was observed and students participated in nest making activity and quiz on birds.
Activity on making bird nests, bird feeders and waterers was conducted, this activity showcased the student’s care and concern for birds. The feeders, nests etc were hung in various places around the college premises.
Preparation of vermicompost in the college campus.
To provide hands-on- experience in the preparation of vermicompost and to create awareness among students about the process of vermicomposting.
To utilize waste of campus plants and garden by using earthworms and get vermicompost as a Black Gold!
To create awareness about to use chemical free Vermicompost as an organic
fertilizer for agriculture.
To provide own vermicompost to college horticulture and gardens in free of cost.
WILDLIFE WEEK 2021 AT INDIRA GANDHI ZOOLOGICAL PARK,VISAKHAPATNAM.
Students participated in the Wildlife week celebrations at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park during October 2021.They participated in various competitions like Wildlife Artists-poster making and Ankita Acharjee won third prize. Many of them participated in the Awareness Rally -"Wildlife Run" to propagate the awareness of conservation of wildlife and to maintain the Biodiversity.
